“I love working in all media, creating real and abstract art in both contemporary and traditional styles. My fascination is with the human form and my greatest challenge is to portray it’s expressions.”

Born and raised in New York City, Angelo Fernandez graduated from the US Naval Academy and completed a successful career in the Marine Corp, retiring in 1985.

He studied art at Tennessee Technological University (TTU), the Nossi School of Art, and with Bill Gephardt, a former student of John Pike. Bill’s watercolor beachscapes, with their interplay of light and movement influenced Angelo’s development of watercolor and pastel technique to where he captures softness with the former and texture with the latter.

Experiences as a board member of the Cumberland Art Society, teaching and showing work at the Cookeville Art Center, working as a portrait artist at Opryland, USA, and being a graphic illustrator for many Tennessee-based corporations has broadened the artist’s perspectives and honed his technical skills.

Awards include Best of Show and First Place in Department of Defense, TTU, Atlanta, Georgia, and Tullahoma Art Show competitions. Angelo’s paintings are in public, corporate and private collections both in the United States and foreign countries, including a large acrylic wall mural in the historic Arcade Building on the Court House Square in Cookeville.
