The natural world of forests and seascapes, with the seeming chaos of color, form, and texture, is the basis of much of my work. One of my greatest influences is my mother who used texture and abstract forms as the basis of much of her work. I have found that versatility of clay as a medium allows me the freedom to express myself in a variety of ways. I love the feel of clay when it is in all it's stages. Rather than simply glaze everything, I often use the natual clay bodies, stains, oxides, and some glazes to enhance the forms and textures on my work. I incorporate lizards, frogs, and birds into many of my forms. I enjoy making work that reveals something different each time it's looked at. In my functional ware, I use combinations of glazes as well as unglazed areas o enahnce the surfaces. I enjoy Raku and wood-firing techniques because of their unpredictability. In addition to my forest creatures and functional ware, I have also developed a collectionof unique Judaic art comprised of items that can be used in holiday celebrations as well as daily life. Clay as a medium has endless possibilities that challenge me to continue to learn and grow as a person and artist.
