Kris Ballinger
is an artist specializing in scrimshaw and pen and ink drawings.
Her work has been seen across the country at juried arts and craft
shows, galleries, and her illustrations were featured on the Emmy-nominated
PBS series, "Robbin Esther's Secret Box", which was distributed
internationally.
Kris' scrimshaw is done on fossil mastodon and walrus ivory, which
is between 10,000 to 50,000 years old. She "scratches" the design
onto the surface of the ivory and then rubs ink into the scratches
to bring out the delicate design. She also works on bamboo, bone
and antique piano keys.
